El Dorado Technologies, LLC, requires a system engineer to supervise maintainance, modernization, and updates to our internal Information Technology infrastructure and maintain the infrastructure of our clients and customers.
The successful candidate must have a passion for technology and be eager to help create a positive work environment and collaborative creative process among geeks, suits, tradespeople, tenants, and homeowners.
Although this is an ideal opportunity for a recent college or university graduate seeking excellent experience, all qualified applicants will be considered.
Under general direction but sometimes without clear guidelines, and while documenting new processes and procedures, the system engineer will be responsible for supervising routine management of servers, desktops, laptops, embedded systems, and network devices, and oversee initial system build and configuration, including:
Additionally, the system engineer will troubleshoot, remediate, resolve, or mitigate when one of these systems suffers from poor performance, application or hardware failure, or other common issues.
The system engineer will be responsible for maintaining up-to-date business records about these systems (access, asset, configuration, and change management as well as issue tracking and knowledgebase updates) using appropriate software tools.
Further, the system engineer will configure, document, and monitor proper backup and restore tests and troubleshoot when they are unsuccessful.

A BS/BA in information technology; computer science; software, electrical, or mechanical engineering; or equivalent is required. More education is better.
At least one of A+, Network+, Linux+ or equivalent certification is required. More than one is preferred.
Experience with troubleshooting common computer malfunctions on enterprise hardware is required.
Experience with one or more cloud platforms (AWS, Azure, GCP, etc.) is required.
Experience with Linux using both SystemD or traditional init systems is required; experience with others is preferred.
Experience with installing and maintaining applications on Linux using at least two of Debian, Red Hat, or Suse package management as well as at least two of Flatpack, Docker, Kubernetes, Snap, or other container systems is required; experience with more is preferred.
Experience with the command line, common text editors (vi), and other utilities on Linux is required. Significant scripting experience with Bash, Dash, or similar shells is required.
Experience with TCP/IP networks and protocols and experience managing VLANs and VPNs is required.
Experience with network security concepts and managing firewalls and similar security tools is required.
Experience with email protocols (SMTP, POP3, IMAP, DKIM, DMARC, SPF) is required.

Initially, the successful candidate must be available to work in the office five days per week. After 90 days of continuous employment, the candidate must be available to work in the office at least two partial days per week while the remainder may be worked remotely, depending on the needs of the business. Employees are expected to record eight hours of work, five days each week, regardless of work location. Typically, business hours are Monday through Saturday between 7:00 a.m. and 6:00 p.m. with the exception of an occasional and exceptional late night or weekend. The specific days worked in office each week will be subject to negotiation from time to time; moreover, I am reasonably flexible on the schedule. This role is subject to being part of an on-call rotation, depending on the needs of the business.
After 90 days of continuous employment, you may be able to work remotely on a pre-determined schedule; however, many of the duties and responsibilities of this role have a component requiring physical presence. Regardless of where you may work on any given day, you must have reliable transportation.
$19-25/hour depending on demonstrated skills and experience, plus mileage reimbursement and cell phone allowance.
